Does The Heart of Your Husband Trust In You?

I have a question for you, today. One that I was struck by, in my reading, today, in the book of Proverbs. Verses 11 and 12 of chapter 31. Yes, I know! That chapter! The one we all read and wonder whether she was a super woman or what! Does The heart of your husband trust in you?

The NKJV reads, “The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her,”. But I like what the NIV Bible says as well. “Her husband has full confidence in her.”

I love that! The wise woman is a woman who is trustworthy for her husband. He has full confidence in her!

My question is, What areas of life should I be examining to see whether my husband can safely trust in me? I came up with a few, and I am sure there are many more. I really, really love the thought of being so trustworthy and also not doing him harm, but good, all the days of his life. Women! There is so much power in our role as helpmeets, as mothers, wives! We can and are world changers! Let’s be diligent in fulfilling that role, starting with being trustworthy for our husbands.

#1 My Speech

Do I talk negatively and criticize my husband to other people? Do I lift him up with my speech or am I sharing things that is no one else’s business, because of a minor grievance I may have toward him at the time. Can he trust me to build him up and not tear him down when he isn’t with me?

Our words have power. Proverbs says life and death is in the power of the tongue. I don’t believe that our words have power to speak things into existence. But they do have the power to encourage, exhort, build up, or completely tear down and destroy someone. Especially when we are doing that to those closest to us.

Again, does the heart of your husband trust in you?

#2 Children

If your husband has a busy job schedule, as many men do, can he trust you to discipline, guide and train up your children in a godly way, even when he is not there physically. I say this because my husband has told me that he could not do what he is doing at work if he couldn’t trust me to take care of and train our children well. He can have peace in knowing that they are properly cared for and loved.

#3 Finances

Are you and your husband on the same page regarding finances? Can he trust you to be wise and discreet in your spending? Does he have the confidence that you won’t be out blowing money that you have agreed not to. Is he able to trust you completely that you will be wise with your money, not making foolish purchases, being a good steward with what God has given you.

#4 Your Relationship with your Husband

Can he have confidence when he comes home that you won’t be meeting him at the door with a full list of complaints. Either of what he hasn’t done, or what he hasn’t done right? That you are there as a friend, companion, helpmeet, and not his biggest criticizer.

When he is weary from stressful work situations, are you his trustworthy supporter or do you add to the burdens on his shoulders, by being a nagging, contentious wife.

Little side note here… I wasn’t aware of how many verses there are in Proverbs about being a contentious wife! I thought there was only one. Turns out there’s several and each one say it is much better to live elsewhere than to live with a contentious wife. It is better to live in the corner of a housetop, or in the wilderness than with a contentious wife. There’s more to it than that, but apparently, men take this whole nagging and contentiousness pretty seriously.

Have you ever considered dropping the suffix of contentiousness, and you get the word content?

I would dare suggest that a lot of nagging and contentiousness stems from a lack of contentment. When I am content, I rarely feel contentious. But when I am filled with discontentment from playing the comparison game, or for various other reasons, I find myself much more critical of others, which turns into nagging/contentiousness.

Does the heart of your husband trust in you? What are some areas you struggle in being a trustworthy helpmeet?

Blessings as you serve the Lord with gladness!
