Hey, there! Meet Cindy from Simple Home Healthy Table!
In the midst of a chaotic world, there is beauty in simple living; healthy food, made from scratch; raising barefoot kids, who love the outdoors; and sitting daily at the feet of Jesus.
Hi! I’m Cindy, wife to John, who willingly supports most of my crazy ideas and many times has assisted in making them come true. I mean I did marry him after all! One dream come true, right?
I am also a busy mom of two mostly sweet, but very ambitious little girls. They are a handful at times, but we are so grateful for our little blessings.
I love cooking and baking and there is nothing that makes me happier than putting food on my table that is made from scratch with delicious AND healthy ingredients, and watching my family, and whoever happens to drop by my house over dinner, enjoy my creations. Well, other than gardening. That is my happy place, too!
Baking with Sourdough is a favorite of mine! Thank you to Lisa at Farmhouse on Boone! She makes it so simple and easy to learn! Check it out here.
I have always had a dream of having a little greenhouse to start my own plants from seeds, etc. Enter dream come true number 2! My husband built me a little lean-to greenhouse on the back of our garage a few years back, and this is my second year of growing my own plants from seed! So much fun! Thank you, John! So when I am not in my kitchen, you will find me in my greenhouse or my garden or one of the large raised beds we built. Well, that John built! Haha!
Growing my own herbs as well as learning how to use them is another of my goals. I have many of them growing already, but I would like t learn to incorporate them into daily life as natural remedies and the like. If there is a natural remedy to be found for any ailment, trust me! I will be sure to find it and try it.
A few fun facts about me.
I grew up Amish, so yes, no cars, no electricity, no air conditioning. One place I lived we used wood-fired water heaters, (Hello! Yes! 21st Century, not ancient Egypt!) and kerosene cookstoves, and yes, that is a thing also, although not the most desirable.
I have lived in 4 different states, and have moved 6 times to different areas as well as moved several times within those areas…. Okay! That just got really confusing! I know! I think I just confused myself, I had to stop and count up all the moves I’ve made. Let’s simplify a bit. I have lived in 12 different houses in my lifetime.
My parents owned a bakery for about 7 years, so I spent all of my teen years,( when I wasn’t in school), working there!
I ran the bakery , on my own, (with my younger sister’s help), for a summer, at the age of 18. Which was probably one of our busiest years of owning it. Along with a large garden and house to take care of. Let’s not talk about the state of the house, or the garden! We did grow a bumper crop of tomatoes that year!
We enjoy traveling, even with a baby and a toddler! And do so several times a year. We’ve been to Florida and Colorado several times as well as Kenya, Africa, (not with a baby or toddler!) Kentucky is probably still one of my favorite states, having lived there for nearly 7 years, before moving to MO.
