How To Get Motivated ( When you’re Not Motivated)

Hey, ya’ll it’s a new day! And also we are a week into the month of March. Spring will officially be here before we know it, and I am READY and waiting. Well, kind of. In the meantime, I am trying to figure out how to get motivated! Because I have not been motivated!

Honestly the winter blues have hit hard this year. I have rarely been so unmotivated. The kids are bored, and well, I am kinda bored, kinda overwhelmed, sorta mopey and depressed, and just not a super-duper wife and momma.

You know, I always have this picture in my head of the kind of wife and mom I want to be. It looks a little bit like super mom. If that would be a thing. My house would be spotless, organized, meals planned, kids in order. Bountiful picture-perfect garden, I would only cook and bake healthy, delicious food. My laundry would be all caught up, and on top of all that, I would have a smile on my face and a peaceful heart.

That is my goal.

Let’s be real though, sometimes it is not possible to do all the things we want to, right NOW!

Good things take time and baby steps is what gets us there. For me, I need to break down a few of my goals, reevaluate what really is important, as well as let go of what isn’t. I AM NOT SUPER-WOMAN, and I know it! Ugh! Could I at least be the Proverbs 31 woman? She sounds like super-woman to me!

How Do We Get Motivated, when we are NOT motivated.

Baby Steps! Repeat! Baby Steps! Say it a couple times more if you have to!

First, don’t forget what your purpose is here on earth. That is to glorify God with your life. So maybe the way to start is to ask yourself, “What am I doing right now that doesn’t glorify God?” And pray about how you can eliminate those stumbling blocks, besetting sins or whatever it is that keeps you from thriving.

(And BTW, that doesn’t include your kids, you can’t eliminate them, and you shouldn’t. I say that because sometimes my kids annoy me when they keep me from pursuing my dreams and goals. When I come back to my senses and repent from that mentality, I realize I need to reprioritize my life. They are not hindrances, annoyances, or anything of that sort. They should be at the top of your goals and part of your dreams. They ought to be a part of what motivates you to pursue the things you do.)

Back to the present! Here are a few things I am doing to try to refocus and combat the winter blues and my lack of motivation…

#1 Prioritize time with God.

I have been slacking with my daily devotions. I make them happen, but I have been rushed, unenthused, and I have not been digging into the Word of God. Receiving that refreshment, conviction, and renewal that come through the Scriptures takes intentionality, commitment, and preparation. At least that is how I find it. The treasures are there when we are looking for them. We need to meditate on them and allow It to soak in and change us.

#2 Eat Healthy

I know everybody says this. But it is so true! When I take care of my body, my mind feels better, too. I have been reading the book, The Thyroid Reboot, And also, Nourishing Traditions. Both have inspired me to reexamine my diet, my way of cooking, meal planning, etc., and make baby steps to changing what I can. Good health is worth it!

#3 Get enough sleep

Do you get good quality sleep? I don’t think I do. I usually wake up a few times a night, even if my kids don’t wake me. I am beginning to realize that is not normal. So a few steps that I am taking to combat this is:

  • Put my phone down an hour or more before bed
  • Take a magnesium supplement, ( I use natural calm)
  • Get my almost 2 year old sleeping better, ( HAHA)
  • Have a cup of warm, calming tea
  • Be in bed by 9
  • And last but not least, Get up when my alarm goes off. Consistently!

#4 Get off your phone ( That is seriously the best way to get motivated!)

I consistently try to do this, and I consistently fail. It is something I need to pray about. I don’t have social media, but I do have several favorite youtubers and I have a bad habit of losing track of time when I am on my phone. It is unprofitable, and quickly ruins any sort of motivation I may have had.

#5 Get outside more

Fresh air does help quite a bit. I don’t enjoy the cold that much so I have a bad habit of not getting outside every day. Hopefully, we’ll see some warmer weather soon, and that should get me motivated to be outside more!

And that Is about all I have for you today! My mood has slightly been picking up, even though it is cold, dreary day. My dishes are done, and there is a warm, chocolate sourdough cake cooling on the counter. With some chocolate cream cheese frosting waiting in the fridge. MMMM! If I can eat that on occasion and still be eating delicious nourishing food, then I will be happy! More on healthy cooking later, because I am super excited to be learning about traditional cooking, and you will be hearing about it! Trust me!

Have a blessed day! Praise God and may all that you do, bring Him glory!
